High temperatures and pressures during the sintering and welding process introduce a greater risk of defects, making inspection of parts necessary with CT & X-Ray technology
Jesse Garant Metrology Center is the experienced nondestructive testing lab manufacturers trust to ensure their sintered and welded parts are defect-free and meet strict quality standards. We understand the requirements for validating sintered parts and invest in the latest inspection technology to meet these demands.
With a full suite of advanced imaging capabilities, we provide critical NDT and metrology data for all stages of manufacturing. We have the greatest diversity of industrial CT systems in North America, including a high-energy computed tomography system for rapid testing of mid-size and large sintered parts and assemblies. We also offer industrial x-ray and 3D scanning services for even more inspection options.
We have diverse NDT imaging systems to handle inspection of a wide range of sintered parts made from a variety of methods and materials, including sintering and welding of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Our lab accommodates inspection of a range of part sizes, shapes, and volumes of sintered and welded parts including; aluminum welds, brazed joints, solder sub sections, and fusion of metallic powders.
4 Key Aspects of Sintered Part Inspection:
- Pre-production Inspection
-
Our industrial CT scanning services provide accurate internal inspection of first run parts, verifying part dimensions for conformity to design and for qualifying features like particle or grain size. Pre-production inspection with CT allows manufacturers to get to production quickly and avoid costly mistakes later on. We also provide complex dimensional data with CT for satisfying First Article Inspection requirements.
- Production Inspection
-
Production inspection using industrial CT confirms proper dimensions and functions of sintered parts and assemblies before they reach their final destination. Testing can be done at specific intervals to identify defects or for 100% inspection to verify internal measurements for design requirements.
- Part Sorting
-
For rapid inspection of large volumes of sintered parts, our industrial x-ray services take the guesswork out of recalled or quarantined situations. We provide a traceable and repeatable inspection process customized to client needs, isolating suspect parts from an otherwise good lot. For high value parts, industrial CT is an available option.
- Failure Investigation
-
Sintered parts have a higher risk of accumulating internal defects as a result of manufacturing processes that involve high material stresses. Industrial computed tomography is the ideal method for identifying internal defects like porosity in sintered parts. CT can also characterize other defects like unwanted shrinkages, inconsistent wall thicknesses, and debinding.
