Industrial computed tomography is a versatile tool for conducting mineral inspection, generating critical data difficult to obtain using other methods
As a specialized nondestructive testing lab, we provide precise mineral inspection for a variety of applications in research, mining, engineering, and construction. Our systems are non-contact and nondestructive, revealing internal and external features and distinct material densities while preserving the original sample conditions.
Our lab is equipped with the greatest diversity of industrial CT systems in North America, including an exclusive high-energy computed tomography system for inspection of larger samples up to 44.5” in diameter by 63” inches in height. We also have a full suite of x-ray testing and 3D scanning capabilities for even more options. Our inspection process is repeatable, traceable, and customized to meet client needs, providing accurate and unbiased data for mineral inspection.
Advanced Nondestructive Testing for Minerals
- Inspecting Minerals with CT
-
Industrial CT compiles together thousands of x-ray images to provide a highly detailed three-dimensional model of naturally occurring minerals. CT reveals features like complex structures, internal composition, porosity, and flaws. Our independent NDT lab yields valuable insight for materials evaluation of a wide range of minerals, including clays, refractory substances, metal ores, silicates, and mixed material samples. CT can also be used to inspect manmade and synthetic materials and substances, identifying and modelling porosities in poured bricks of raw metals, for example.
- Core Sample Inspection
-
Industrial computed tomography can test core samples of natural substances in sediments and rocks as well as materials like ceramics, concrete, asphalt, and softer metals and alloys. Our industrial CT services can model the material distribution of cores, able to characterize features like density distribution, cracks, and porosities without disturbing or altering the samples. We provide critical core sample data for a variety of applications, including ore evaluations for mining and petroleum industries and inspecting soil samples for civil engineering.
- Cut Gems and Precious Stones
-
CT technology offers advantages over conventional methods like CMM for dimensional and geometric analyses of cut gemstones like diamond, sapphire, and ruby. As an x-ray based technology, CT can handle inspection of clear or reflective materials and does not require the use of touch probes, reducing the risk of damage. Our lab provides clients with high density dimensional data for reverse engineering cut gems along with internal inspection for evaluating characteristics like shape and clarity.
