Additive – CT – XRAY – NDT Services

Our continued investment in industrial CT, radiographic testing, and 3D scanning technologies means we adapt to the latest innovations in additive manufacturing with rapid part inspection

Jesse Garant Metrology Center provides a full suite of advanced imaging capabilities for validating complex geometries and identifying defects in 3D printed parts. We are the nondestructive testing company industries trust to ensure their printed parts meet quality standards.

We have the greatest diversity of industrial computed tomography systems in North America, including an exclusive high-energy CT system for rapid mid-size to large 3D printed part inspection, along with numerous industrial x-ray and 3D scanning options.

Our repeatable inspection process is customized to client needs and provides accurate, unbiased data for all stages of the additive manufacturing process. With diverse NDT systems, we can inspect complex 3D printed parts of a wide range of sizes, shapes, and materials. This includes thermoplastic polymers such as ABS, nylon, and polycarbonate and metals like Inconel, copper, aluminum, titanium, and nickel based alloys. We also accommodate testing of AM parts printed using different methods, including SLA, FDM, SLM, SLS, EBM or other 3D printing technologies.

Five Ways to Improve Quality Control with 3D Printed Parts:

Pre-production Inspection:

Qualifying dimensions of 3D printed parts during pre-production ensures part fidelity to original designs. Our nondestructive industrial CT services verify complex dimensions and identify variations from the CAD model, saving time and costs in the long run. We also provide metrology data during First Article Inspection for aerospace (AS9102) and automotive (PPAP). When establishing a manufacturing process, we provide quick validation of 3D printed test bars and multi quadrant test samples.

Production Inspection:

Industrial CT inspection conducted for every part or at specified intervals during production can identify residual powders, verify dimensions, and validate internal part geometry. Our offline production inspection service is thus ideal for full qualification of parts and assemblies, giving manufacturers peace of mind. Industrial CT is also useful for FAI during the production stage.

Part Sorting:

For sorting and lot inspection of 3D printed parts, our industrial CT services take the guesswork out of quarantined, warranty or recalled parts. We provide a traceable, repeatable inspection process to isolate suspect parts so good parts are brought back into production. Industrial X-ray is another option for higher volume part sorting.

Failure Investigation:

Industrial computed tomography is the optimal nondestructive testing method for identifying and characterizing external and internal defects in 3D printed parts. Our industrial CT services can find common defects like porosity, cracks, and inconsistent wall thicknesses that can often lead to part failure.

Reverse Engineering:

As reverse engineering tools, industrial computed tomography and 3D scanning aid in the rapid prototyping of 3D printed parts. Our advanced NDT systems generate precise, accurate surface data to provide quick feedback for rapid design iterations and reverse engineering of relic or one of a kind parts. Part to CAD and Part to Part comparisons are also available options with CT and 3D scanning.
